Do we live in a safe country? To know more about a country's safety read through the article. Global Peace Index(GPI) takes into consideration 23 indicators to assess the peace index of a country. Some of the indicators are number of external and internal conflicts fought, potential for terrorist attacks, level of violent crime, relations with neighboring countries..etc.,. The survey was conducted on 144 countries from the world and the GPI for the year 2009 is shown in the table below.

The table shows that New Zealand is the safest country in the world to live in and the least safest or dangerous being Iraq. Both, Norway and Denmark, are placed second in the table and they score very well in human rights and political stability. They also have the lowest scores on gender inequality. The lower the score, the more safer the country is. Iceland has got good scores in literacy and civil liberties while Austria gets fifth position due to its good score in democracy and education. Sweden is placed next in the rankings and the Scandinavian countries' scores are more or less similar in all areas.

Countries like Afghanistan and Iraq have bad scores in deaths resulting from conflicts, political instability, adult literacy rate, infant mortality rate, life expectancy..etc., In fact, the GPI indicates that the world is becoming less peaceful. If this trend continues then no country will be safer to live. So, what could be the solution for this problem? Here are some of the ways that have been suggested by UN to hold peace in the world  1) to reject violence, 2) prevent conflicts by addressing root causes, and 3) solving problems through dialogue and negotiation. Each individual can contribute towards world peace in many ways such as respecting the fundamental rights, showing no discrimination, casting vote to form a good government...etc.,. So as individuals let us do our duty and make this world a better place to live for the future generations to come.

As personal computers were easily available to many, the idea of portability emerged. In the early 1970s IBM started the manufacturing of portable computers which later led to the evolution of the present day laptop computers sometimes referred to as "Notebooks" because of its size. Laptops are considered to be more efficient especially because of its architecture and portability.A desktop replacement computer is a laptop that provides most of the capabilities of a desktop computer, with a similar or better level of performance. Laptops  are light-weight, economical, energy-efficient and especially suited for wireless communication and internet access.

Today we have a number of leading laptop manufacturers in the world. The best among the manufacturers who hold the top 10 spots are DELL, SONY, FUJITSU, LENOVO, ACER, TOSHIBA, HITACHI, APPLE, COMPAQ, HEWLETT PACKARD. There are others like Samsung, HCL, Asus, Gateway, Panasonic...etc., who also do a fair contribution.  The graph above shows the malfunctioning rate of  some of  the biggest manufacturers in the world. At the same time these are all the manufacturers of the best notebooks too.

This particular graph above shows the preferences of the customers worldwide. The graph also reflects the quality of each brand. So anyone willing to buy a laptop can get an idea from these two graphs and come to a conclusion about which one to buy.

It's impossible to imagine a world without wireless cellular phones. The invention of mobile phones have changed the life style of working population across the globe. For sure it has influenced the society in a positive and progressive path. As the popularity of the cell phones grew, the manufacturers of the cell phones also started to grow gradually. Today we have a handful of mobile phone manufacturers in the world who lower their cell phone prices to get a strong foothold in the market and to stay alive in the competition with other service providers. Some of the top 10 handset manufacturers in the world are,

1) Nokia

The other companies that are involved in the business are Apple, HTC, Blackberry, Alcatel, Vodafone, 3, Toshiba...etc., Some companies aim at making a good sales whereas others think of providing the latest in the technology in their handsets. So its a healthy competition where we keep getting high end mobile phones manufactured every single day and the pie keeps changing its figure for every quarter of the year according to their sales.

Statistics show that Nokia has always remained in the top spot in manufacturing mobile cellular  phones. Samsung is also showing consistency but there is huge gap between first and second places. The next three in the list have a tight race among themselves changing position every year. These top 5 manufacturers alone contribute to around 80% of the mobiles phones manufactured in the world.

hrusday (17/02/2010), the UK government has released some files about Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs). This is the largest set of files released about the UFOs so far with 6000 pages. It contains materials from 1994 to 2000. The files share the experiences of a man in England in the year March 1997. He has seen a large blue triangle-shaped craft hovering over his back garden. The report says that the dogs around the area started barking after seeing the UFO.

Another document says that a man saw a " tube of light " coming straight from the sky in January, 1997. He saw this when he was driving  to home. Its stated that his car radio and mobile phone failed to work at that time. He has also said that he was able to walk through the light which feft him sick the next day. The document says that he developed skin problems after walking through the "tube of light" which first seemed to him like a star coming down from the sky.

The reports in the latest file describe UFOs as big, black and triangular, whereas reports from the 1940s and 1950s tended to be about saucers or disc-shaped objects. David Clarke, author of the book " The UFO files" says that "It's impossible to prove a direct link between what people are reading and watching and what they report as UFOs, but one interpretation could be that the latest advances in technology may be influencing what people see in the sky".

To put it simple, the national animal, panthrea tigris, of India is at stake. If this problem is left unattended then we might see the extinction of the entire species in India. This is experienced not only in India but this is happening all over the world. 40000 was the strength of the Indian tiger population at the beginning of this century and don't be surprised to know that only 1411 tigers are present in India at present. Statistics say that in 2009 alone 86 deaths have been reported. With 37 tiger sanctuaries in India, about 17 of them are on the verge of tiger extinction.

The tigers in India are not only facing natural deaths but their lives are endangered by the human population. What we should do to save tigers? We should stop pouching tigers and also stop depleting the tiger habitats. If these two are avoided then the tigers will have a happy life out there in the forests.

How you can contribute to save tigers in our country? An awareness program has been started in India to stop pouching of tigers and depletion of their habitats. You can write about saving tigers in India in blogs like I have done or you can use twitter, facebook ..etc to pass on this message. Friends, if we neglect this for another 10 years I think we wont have any tiger left in our country and our country should have a different national animal.

The arrow in the logo says that the company sells everything from a to z and it also conveys the smile that the customers get by shopping in amazon.

The story about the logo of Apple goes back to the Bible story of the Adam and Eve where the Apple represents the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Even the word "Macintosh" is the name of an apple variety.

The name "Cisco" is an abbreviation of San Francisco. According to John Morgridge and the company's first president, the founders decided the name and logo while driving to Sacramento to register the company -- they saw the Golden Gate Bridge framed in the sunlight.

Sun's logo, features four interleaved copies of the word sun. The logo was designed by professor Vaughan Pratt, of Stanford University. The initial version of the logo had the sides oriented horizontally and vertically, but it was subsequently redesigned so as to appear to stand on one corner.

The logo represents the wing of the Greek Goddess. The company's first logo appeared in 1971, when the word "Nike," the Greek goddess of victory, was printed in orange over the outline of a check mark, the sign of a positive mark.

BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke or Bavarian Motor Company. The logo comprises of four quadrants of alternating white and blue color. It is a stylized representation of an airplane propeller spinning against the clear blue sky. The logo represents a white propeller blade against a blue sky.

People from different parts of the world have different opinions about the Valentine's Day. Some  believe that it is because of the person called St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D. Some people also  believe that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St. Valentine. Then gradually people started exchanging gifts, cards, poems..etc., to show their love and affection towards their intimate ones.

Most of the people have a wrong opinion about February 14 that it is meant only for the young couples who love each other. They should also know that it is not only for the youngsters out there but for everyone in this world.

The IEEE symbol is composed of a four-sided kite, commemorating Benjamin Franklin's famous experiment in electricity. The central feature is the straight and curved arrows, symbolizing the right-hand rule of electromagnetism. The IEEE was formed in 1963 as a merger of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) and the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE). The kite portion of the design was inherited from the AIEE, while the right-hand rule icon was adopted from the IRE. The Institute is basically a non-profit, technical professional association. It is the leading organization in several fields including technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others. IEEE promotes the development of electrotechnology and allied sciences and the application of those technologies for the benefit of humanity, the advancement of the profession and the well-being of its members.
